Google Helps Snare Suspected Murderer
A realtor in Ohio used Google to search for information
on a prospective tenant, and found the applicant's boyfriend was a wanted
man.
NBC4i.com in Columbus reported the capture of one of America's Most Wanted in a case where a 51-year old man was killed by a suspected drunken driver in May 2004. Doug Holler and his girlfriend, Marcia Franz, had been on the run for a year and a half until Franz applied to rent an apartment. The realtor searched for the girlfriend's name on Google. One search result was from the web site for America's Most Wanted, where she was listed as an associate of Holler's. Police from Marion, Ohio were contacted, and they tracked down and arrested Holler. A report on the web site described how Holler slipped away from a hospital and police after the accident: Cops say Holler checked into a hospital following the crash. Police say they didn't file charges immediately because they were waiting for results from a blood alcohol test -- they suspected Holler had been drinking. Not only that, they say he had a previous drunk driving conviction. But Holler didn't wait around for the test results. He took off and was never seen again. |
