In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:6-7

Some of the strangest moments come from the times people don’t realize they’re being recorded. The funny, candid moments are called bloopers but failure moments caught on tape are often catastrophic. Did you know that every moment of our lives is being recorded right now?

This week on Walk in the Word , we’re in the series called “Reality Check: Find the Hope when Life is Hardest.” Today we’re reminded that our trials are our faith’s testing ground. Some believers think following the Lord is a Sunday drive in the sunshine until they hit gravel and their faith heads south. They vow never to attend church or pick up a Bible again. When others go through trials, it purifies their faith so that what remains is gold. First Peter 1:6 says, though now for a little while, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith . . . may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Let’s take that verse apart. My faith, when tested, results in:

Praise. I express worship to God even in the midst of trials. (That’s good!)

Glory. I experience the presence of God no matter what I’m facing. (Even better!)

Honor. I elevate Christ above all things. (Whoa—that’s best!)

When does this happen? Verse six says “ at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ” That is on a day in the not too distant future when we stand before the Lord Jesus Christ, all of us gathered around His throne. On that day, somebody’s going to say, “__your name___, come forward please,” and then, “Alright, roll the tape.” Together we’re going to watch a trial in your life and how you responded.

Is that really going to happen? Yeah, it really is. You’re going to see what you’re going through today again, but from another vantage point. That’s why it’s so important to seize this difficult time for Christ. Far from being the worst moments of your life, they become your premium opportunity to honor Him.

Do you know what will happen next? We will turn to each other and say, “I know you—and that wasn’t you in that trial. That was God in you!” And we’ll fill heaven with praise, glory, and honor for the way that Christ showed Himself strong in your life during those painful days. That’s going to be a worship service beyond imagination. For that reason alone you’ll want to do well in the difficult days you face this side of heaven. I know I do. Let’s capture every trial we face today for God’s praise, glory and honor!
